A Slow Tech Movement pilot

Tiny Giants

A small experiment in mutual support for people connected through the Small Giants community.

At the Small Giants Summit, Carl Erickson and I hosted a lunch table called Tiny Giants. What I heard clearly was that many of us do not need another networking platform. We need a simple way to reach real people who understand the stage we’re in.

So I built a small app experiment, and I’d love your help testing it.

What it does

Tiny Giants lets someone in our small circle press one button:

“One of us needs support.”

Other people in the circle can quietly offer a 30-minute time to talk. The person asking for support chooses a time, and only then are both people introduced and connected.

No feed.

No likes.

No public posting.

No pressure to explain more than you want to.

Just a small way to help us make space for each other.

Why I’m asking you

This is a private pilot for people connected to the Tiny Giants conversation at the Small Giants Summit.

It’s free. It’s early. It may be imperfect. But I’d love to test whether this simple tool can help us continue the kind of honest, generous conversations we started in person.

The goal is not to create another place to keep up with. The goal is to make it easier, in a real moment, to say: I could use a person.

Built with Slow Tech principles

Tiny Giants is intentionally designed against many of the patterns common in modern social software.

  • It does not try to maximize engagement.
  • It does not turn support into content.
  • It does not rank, score, or publicly display care.
  • It is designed to disappear once two people are connected.

The ideal outcome is not more time in the app. The ideal outcome is two people having a meaningful conversation.

Privacy and phone numbers

Because this is a private pilot, only invited people will be able to join.

I may ask for your email and phone number to help protect the circle and make the support call work smoothly. Your phone number will not be shown publicly in the app.

The app is designed so that:

  • support requests are anonymous at first
  • people offering times are anonymous at first
  • identities are revealed only after a time is selected
  • phone numbers are shared only when needed to connect for the scheduled call
  • this is not an open public community

Tiny Giants is for peer support and conversation. It is not a crisis service, therapy service, or emergency response tool.

Join the pilot

If you’re willing to help test Tiny Giants, I’d love to include you.

Right now I’m keeping the pilot intentionally small and trust-based while I learn what works.
